Another way of looking at drawing shape and weight is like drawing a glass filled with water. You can still see through the glass, but notice how it’s full of substance. That’s how you want your drawings to be. Your drawings may not be full of color and shading, but it’s full of weight and substance, just like that glass of water.
Now, as you get better, you can add shading to where it pluses the experience of learning to draw shape. The shading doesn’t make the drawing BETTER or COOLER…it’s there to help you understand where the light source is coming from. Still need to accomplish shape WITHOUT the bells and whistles.
